The Legacy of Hafiz Amjid Mahmood Noorani at Jami Masjid Noorani Halifax
The following tribute has been shared by the family of Hafiz Amjid Mahmood Noorani (RA)
A kind and gentle soul, Hafiz Amjid (RA) welcomed everyone with warmth and sincerity. He was truly larger than life – a personality who brought people together, uplifted hearts, and quietly helped anyone in need. He was a role model who taught us the values of kindness, generosity, hard work, and charity. He showed us how to remain devoted to our deen and our community, maintaining the right balance between dunya and akhirah – but above all, he reminded us to remain steadfast in salah and deeply connected to the Qur’an and the Masjid.
Hafiz Amjid (RA) holds a special place in the history of our community. He was the first student to complete hifz under the blessed guidance of Qibla Qari Zaheer Iqbal Qadri, a milestone that reflected his dedication and love for the Qur’an from a young age. His lifelong attachment to the house of Allah continued through his pivotal role in the rebuilding of Jami’ Masjid Noorani Halifax. From the very beginning of the project, he showed immense passion and commitment, supporting it wholeheartedly and encouraging others to do the same. His vision, enthusiasm, and generosity helped lay the foundations of what stands today as a centre of worship, learning, and unity for the community.
Following his passing on 4th Ramadan 2016 (11th June), the masjid was renamed in his honour – a lasting tribute to his service, sincerity, and love for the Masjid and its people.
Today, as the rebuilding efforts continue and the masjid develops further for future generations, we encourage everyone to donate generously towards this noble cause as Esaal E Thawaab for Hafiz Amjid Mahmood Noorani (RA). Contributing to this blessed project is a means of continuing his legacy and earning ongoing reward on his behalf, Insha’Allah.
